Based on some reviews I was worried but this is top quality! I'm so glad I bought this for canning on a flat plate! I think some of the concerns raised in other reviews have to do with people either not reading the instruction manual or not knowing the basics of canning. For example, some reviews complained that the lid wasn't tight enough and water spilled out on full heat. The instructions state that this means the cooking temperature is too high and should be lowered to the hilt. Another person complained that the glasses tilted and didn't stand upright. This is because empty cans filled with water must be placed on a filling rack to stabilize other cans. Hope that helps. bottom line. Don't hesitate to buy this tin box! It's a nice big size and the rack inside can be turned upside down for steam canning in addition to bain-marie canning. Very diverse!
