Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ Enhance Connectivity: Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock (Thunderbolt 2 Compatible) - Cable Sold Separately by Marcos Fiallo

Works well for video + gigabit ethernet, high performance requirements

This dock serves my needs well. I wanted a docking station for my wife's 2011 MacBook Air so she could use it at home and only need two cables - power and Thunderbolt. I currently have a DVI monitor and gigabit ethernet connected to a docking station. The DVI monitor uses a Mini Displayport DVI cable. Gigabit Ethernet just flies - I'm seeing a maximum transfer rate of around 120MB/s and sustained speeds in excess of 100MB/s. I wanted a docking station because I needed video out and full gigabit ethernet. You can't have both on a 2011 MacBook Air as it only has USB2 ports and a Thunderbolt port. You must choose between video or gigabit ethernet. With a docking station, you can have both, with the added benefit of only needing one cable to connect. Okay, yes you can get a USB video output module, but I don't want to use that either. Too unreliable and too slow. Now if Apple could just figure out a way to charge a laptop through the Lightning connector, I'd just have to connect one cable! The docking station comes with a 12 volt SIX AMP power supply. I've never seen a 12 volt power supply with such high amperage for external hard drives, let alone a solid state docking station. What happens there? Is Belkin Slowly Selling Extra Power to Tesla Drivers?

Pros
  • 1 gigabit ethernet port
Cons
  • Available in black only
