You'll need to pre-drill

I've tried these on 6" x 8" logs going through an 8" length. They didn't get through. They would get stuck and end up around the head. Make sure you have a 5/16" screwdriver as there are no bits included in the box. I pre-drilled a 1/8" hole with a 12" bit. The place works fine.
