I suspect these are standard shoes at Guantanamo unless banned by the Geneva Convention. Aside from the looks of this shoe, I can't find a single positive feature. They are far inferior to the much cheaper shoes I've had in terms of comfort, finish and fit. I've mostly worn Ferragamo loafers for the past few years, but I figured it was time to ditch the flashy buckles and opt for something new. classic and conservative, that's why I chose this design. I was tried on at the AE store on 5th Ave in New York and ended up ordering two pairs online the following week: one in black calfskin, the other in burgundy calfskin. Heel counter and wearing only a few times can break it. That is not true. I literally couldn't walk a block to the subway station for the first 3 weeks in them. In fact, I took a cab to work hoping I wouldn't find a pool of blood on the heels of my shoes every night. I stepped on my heel cup and tried using a shoe last to stretch the area of the toe that was pinching my pinky toe, but to no avail. It's been two months and they're still terribly uncomfortable. If there is even a crease or the tiniest seam on my toe, the shoe becomes unbearable and the heel continues to rub. The sock actually looks stretched now that it's a little torn. With burgundy shoes, which shrink a little more easily, perhaps due to a slightly different tanning process, is this much more pronounced? Who knows, but now shoes that used to feel too tight in my forefoot are too loose, and my foot feels like it's slipping off the insole when I step on a rough pavement. every step. The heel cup seems to extend a bit far towards the instep. Combined with a leather strap at the top that keeps the front stiff, the leather in between has no choice but to curl outwards, which I find particularly interesting as all but one area of the leather is remarkably stiff. The soles are soft, which unfortunately doesn't make the shoes more comfortable, but manages to pick up every grain or pebble on the ground. I never thought gravel or pebbles could be a problem but for some reason these shoes have it all. On a black pair of shoes, the creases on the left and right boots are very different. While the right one flexes normally, the left one folds up and bulges out. I could attribute it to a mismatch between my legs, but since the burgundy pair doesn't have that issue, it appears to be a manufacturing mismatch. Overall the quality is much lower than I imagined. They're inconsistent, stiff in the wrong places, and hands down the most uncomfortable pair of shoes I've ever worn. I deeply regret waiting for them to break in - it would have made more sense to get my money back. I am very disappointed in these shoes and would recommend everyone to be absolutely sure about the comfort before buying and even then look for an alternative.
