I've found that when there's a product that's designed to do a specific job, and you're trying to get that job done without it. You waste time and effort and only make yourself worse. In any case. The points on this really allow for a more accurate approach to fixing your error or overzealous application. Wrapping a layer of t-shirt material around it also helps.
