Review on πŸ”ͺ KING Deluxe Medium Grain Sharpening by Randy Holt

Good Starter Whetstone

I bought this after watching a YouTube video recommended by a chef. 9 years ago I got a good double-edged Japanese knife at a wedding. I consider myself an average home cook, sometimes I use knives 3 times a day, sometimes I don't use them at all. Anyway, my knives haven't been sharpened in 9 YEARS! They've been around for a long time, but I still use them. I knew they needed sharpening but didn't know how to do it until I watched this video. So I bought this block. I'm sure it's a great rock and it's just a learning curve, but I'd like to buy a 2 grain rock (don't know if that's the right term). Anyway, it works fine on its own, but after sharpening a knife for about 45 minutes (I know it should only take about 20 minutes but I'm new to this) my double bevel knife is a lot sharper than I started, but it also left chips and nicks on the edge. Since this is also just a roughness, I noticed after washing the knife that it rusts very easily. I guess I need more ornamental stone to polish it. But a 1200 grit whetstone is great for sharpening.
