Despite the above cons, the 16-85/3.5-5.6 is one of the best lenses I've owned, and without a doubt, it's currently the best (quality, not price) fast zoom on crop. It differs from the super popular 18-200 and 18-135 abroad by its excellent geometric qualities and sharpness, and it is much better structurally. However, if I had a choice between 18-70 and 16-85, then, given the difference in price by 3 times, it is not known what I would stop at. Despite all the advantages of the lens, it remains slow, which means dark and without beautiful bokeh, therefore, except for travel and reporting, it is difficult to use it somewhere. Perhaps using a separate flash will help solve this problem. And if its cost ever drops to 13-15 thousand, then it will be an ideal lens for a relatively beginner. In the meantime, I would recommend this lens only if there are no financial difficulties, otherwise it is better to take the Nikon 18-70mm f / 3.5-4.5 AF-S DX.
