Review on ๐Ÿ” NOVA3D Ultra Clear Monochrome Printing: The Ultimate Precision and Clarity by Matthew Goyette

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good material in additive manufacturing products

I have a plain old Nova3D Elfin2 without a powerful monochrome LCD. I didn't read anything about this Rapid Ultra Clear Resin when I ordered it. There were strange marriages I had never seen before. Thinking the problem was in the geometry of the part, the support structure, and other common things, I printed out the basic shapes. Cubes and cylinders with conical holes in them for better troubleshooting. A 30 second exposure of the bottom layer was sufficient for the Elfin2 aluminum build plate. (If the parts don't stick, increase this time as needed.) The remaining layers (0.100 mm high) required a long exposure. The usual 5 seconds just left a sticky mess on the plate. And 8 seconds per shift wasn't enough. The most obvious downside was that the parts didn't always stick to the base layers. (See photos of wet parts just taken out of the printer.) But it worked for 15 seconds. More time should be even better. Everything has improved. This material requires a lot of UV radiation to cure. 15 seconds per coat is typically required when light penetration is difficult, as is the case with black resin. I've tried my best to make it yellow but the prints remain clear, as sharp as when applied, even after an hour of curing. Camera. A minute in this thing is enough to darken regular resin. The extra printing time is worth the wait. They say it's "viscous". It is slimy and sticky and can connect short spans. The dense forest of short supports below the part is likely to become a solid block. Raise the model a few millimeters above the plate to allow the resin to drain. After playing with it for a day I don't know much but at least I know I can type with it. I expect there will be several trade-offs for that sparkling cleanliness.

Pros
  • Low shrinkage and high precision
Cons
  • Damaged
