Ok I like it mostly because it was such a good deal from Revain Warehouse. I gave my old TomTom to a friend and bought a new one. As a GPS it's not much different from the old one, but lifetime maps were an asset. (If I had updated maps on an old TomTom, two updates would have cost more than this new device!) Connecting the phone to the Bluetooth car kit was another great benefit. I was expecting the voice recognition feature to be slick, but once you know what to say it's actually pretty handy and accurate. I'm not keen on the suction cup mount (newer ones stick to a variety of surfaces other than glass). The screen is not large, but it is still clear even in split-screen mode (lane control). Brightness and volume are excellent (changeable via voice control). Regarding the "problem" with updated maps that do not fit on the device: The latest update for the US/Mexico/Canada map does not (entirely) fit on the memory of the device. TomTom found a solution by providing a series of 'partial maps', each of which fits into memory. I live in Massachusetts and have chosen the Eastern United States and (all of) Canada. I very rarely travel west of Nebraska. If I ever did, I could just set a different partial map for that trip (US West + Canada, US North + Canada, US South + Mexico, US (no Canada/Mexico). The entire map is always registered to you and always available online. Although sometimes not advertised, this unit (VIA 1435) has a microSD card slot (next to the USB port). If you buy a 4GB card, you can put the entire card on an SD card. You cannot have multiple versions of the SAME card on the device at the same time, but another card could be placed in the vacant slot (Europe, UK/Ireland,.) CUSTOMER SERVICE: I bought the device in an open box and an activation code because the lifetime cards had expired. I contacted TomTom and they emailed me pictures of the box and my receipt. Within an hour my free cards were unlocked and installed on my device. Online technical support: p After a lot of experimentation I finally figured out that it's not possible to have different partial versions of the same map. e caused a software error; The next day the device would not boot past the boot image. The TomTom website has instructions on how to reinstall the software. After getting the latest version of MyDrive and following the instructions, I connected the device to my computer and as soon as MyDrive recognized it, the software installation began. After the restore everything was fine and all my data and settings were still there. Initially I thought I didn't need a dedicated GPS module as I have a phone and tablets but I have to admit I love the functionality and user interface of the TomTom GPS and am very happy with this purchase.
