I may not have understood their purpose but I thought they were the same as MoCA adapters. I had an adapter connected to my AT&T router in the basement with an Ethernet cable, then to a coax line going to my office, and then to an unmanaged 8-port switch. Everything worked great for a week or two, then suddenly my RokuTV stopped working on a wired connection. I thought it was the switch and troubleshooting was a huge pain. I tried connecting the TV to the Comtrend adapter but still no internet. Then I have problems connecting my computer to the internet and keep saying that it has a misconfigured IP. So I unplug the switch and plug it straight into the PC, after that it works sporadically but always ends up with an incorrect IP configuration. I originally had Actiontec MoCA adapters connecting my living room setup to the same type of unmanaged switch and never had any adapters. problems. So I went ahead and bought another Actiontec kit (almost twice the price of these adapters), and even my RokuTV works again with a wired connection (I seriously thought something was wrong with the TV itself). So I don't know what they are for, but they don't seem to be very good at bringing more wired internet connections into new rooms at home via coax.
