renewable energy and my main goal in purchasing this tool is to ensure that the AC and DC sections of the equipment I install do not have wire terminations that experience elevated temperatures due to resistance at the terminations. Wrongly sized connectors or conductors (HTI-19 can also be useful for checking the operating temperature of inverters, converters and charge controllers depending on the ambient temperature at the installation site. I have just started my own beta testing of the product to make sure it will meet my requirements. In my first test, I pointed the camera at the panel to see if there were any hot spots (indicating excessive temperature due to loose connections on the power rail or wiring at the attached switch.) I found the AFCI -Switches loose on the bus bar resulting in the temperature being 21 degrees Fahrenheit hotter than anywhere else on the sign TEN rated at 2000w in a water heater I was surprised the camera in this junction box was reading temperatures in the range of 140-144 degrees The HTI-19 detected the temperature of the coil, located under all contactor wiring. The coil is responsible for the electromagnetic field that allows the contactor to provide 240 volts for a 2000 watt hot water heating element. serving as both floor and ceiling beams. It was fairly easy to tell the metal struts apart from the rest of the structure based on the temperature difference (the struts were 9 degrees colder than the rest of the structure). The only issue I had was the inability to attach the strap to the camera itself (not in this case) as I will be using this camera in rooftop installations and in commercial panels where I don't want to accidentally drop the camera. The HTI-I9 will also be useful for pre-work assessments to ensure there are no thermal issues in existing equipment before work begins. A well-known saying in the electrical industry is that the last electrician on site is blamed for the sins of previous installations. FYI, I've been looking for an IR camera for the last 2 years and the cost of the usual suspects (Flir, Fluke etc) made me buy the HTI-19. So far so good, but I'll update this review if I encounter any issues that limit my use of the HTI-19 due to bugs. Sincerely, Matthew Corona.
