This ball joint doesn't appear to have any lube in the boot. The case folds in easily when installed and should protrude slightly when you press it down. Tighten slotted nut. If they were lubricated a step would be added, but it doesn't matter. I will be replacing it soon as it looks like there could be a failure at any moment which could be very dangerous if not catastrophic.
