ATPWONZ 3 solved the circuit breaker tripping mystery
After installing landscape lights with the connectors provided, I found that the GFI would trip whenever there was a heavy rain or the sprinklers were turned on. After rewiring them with a 3-pin plug at each lighting location, I have no more trouble tripping the circuit breaker.
