My '99 Tahoe needed new shocks. I have a lot of experience with Rancho shocks on vans and SUVs, but these shocks caught my attention for one simple reason: the extra coil spring certainly increases the force required to compress the shock, but it serves a different purpose - it helps the leaf spring, which to bear burden. ! My Tahoe is rear-wheel drive only and there are virtually no "heavy leaf springs" for this SUV. So I decided to try them. I also put Ranchos (RS5166) on the front axle. The Monroes added 1.25 inches to the rear of my Tahoe (measured from the road surface to the bumper). These dampers don't create a bumpy ride when you drive an empty truck, but . When you're loading 1,000 pounds of stuff (we recently moved, I did, I'll tell you!) you have no sagging in your back. You're still ready to go and don't have to be afraid to bend over every bump in the road! Pros: If you find yourself lugging a lot of pounds or towing a trailer from time to time, get these kicks. Cons: Depending on your application, you may need to "make room". I had to bend the left rear brake hose a bit to get it out of the way. Due to the coil springs, these dampers require a little more space. And assembly can be a pain. You can (slowly) press the standard damper together with your bare hands before assembly, which makes "inserting" much easier. The coil spring makes any attempt at compression pointless.
