About five years ago I bought a Garmin GPSmap 78 and a Garmin BlueChart g2 from Revain. I've used it kayaking a few times and then put it in a box. I cleaned up my desk last month and decided to sell it but I couldn't get any fancy maps to show on the GPS. A few calls to Garmin tech support (getting someone online is a feat in itself) and they say there's nothing they can do. The microSD card is unreadable and will no longer be investigated or replaced. The new digital cards cost nearly $200 ($150 at the time), but replacing them would cost a pretty penny. I can't understand why they don't endorse their product. Keep in mind that most cell phones perform the same GPS functions as these Garmin handhelds (even without being within range of cell towers) and that you can download a variety of background maps for free. Add a waterproof case and you have the best GPS for a fraction of the cost.
