Pretty good automatic primer/sealant gun, but there are a few issues to be aware of.

This review refers to (Neiko 31215A HVLP gravity gun, 1.7 mm nozzle). I've used this gun about ten times for restoration work on multiple vehicles here and there. I bought this gun specifically for auto primers and sealants. It's not a bad pistol, but there are a few issues to be aware of. First, the front of the controller is plastic. If you put varnish, MEK or HET thinner on it - which you do when you clean it - the plastic will be destroyed and you won't be able to see anything, so you can set the pressure with a pressure gauge. Second, you should do this before using a new gun anyway, but it needs to be completely disassembled and cleaned. I had a bit of a problem taking it apart initially, but that wasn't a problem as some of the other reviewers here say. I actually used a reduced pressure 3/8 percussion gun to release the mine and it worked well. I couldn't find threadlock, but there was what looked like dried paint inside and on some threads. It was brand new so something must have been used in the manufacturing process. Finally - and this is more of a preference - I would wish that the cup was bigger. Note that the adjustment knob locks when pushed in and unlocks when pulled out to adjust. As far as spraying thicker liquids like car primers and sealers, adjustability and applying a good finish, it will perform satisfactorily. This is an HVLP pistol, and with paint prices rising every day, shooting an old-fashioned HVHP pistol just doesn't make sense. Still, at this price I wouldn't use it for true base and clear coats, only primers/sealers, at least with a 1.7 tip. Much of the painting depends on the experience of the artist. Even an $800 gun won't give a good finish in the wrong hands, but a good painter can make a cheap gun work wonders. When doing this type of work for yourself or even for others, you really need two different guns, one for primer and one for paint. Spend at least $100 or even $200 on a decent HVLP spray gun and you're done.
