It's a drive belt. Does what it should.
The old idler pulley was worn out causing the old belt to break. I bought this belt and another tensioner from Amazon. Neither of them were OEM, but the price was about 25% of the cost of the original part. Fast delivery, good price and easy installation (once you figure out how to disassemble the dryer cabinet). We've done half a dozen downloads so far and the dryer works as expected. Not sure how long it will last, but the OEM part only lasted a few years so hopefully for a quarter of the price it will last that long. This is a really easy fix, but search the internet for helpful videos. There are many of them and they will save you hours trying to find the easiest way to fix the error.
