I was very happy to use this pestle for my old fashioned crafts. The first time I used it it worked like a charm. The second time I took it out of the box, I noticed a puddle under where it was stored. I didn't think about it much until I started stirring up my sugar cube and more water started leaking from the space between the black plastic base and the metal handle. So much water came out that my lump of sugar dissolved before I could add the whiskey. Water would leak out and get wet every time I tried to use it. It takes an incredibly long time to pour out all the water before trying to use it, which isn't worth it.
