You Won't Believe It! I followed the downloaded instructions and downloaded the free "AirSpy" software. Everything worked for me in 15 minutes. I use a better VHF antenna but it worked initially with a simple wire. For other bands you need to learn which antennas to use. The SMA connector is annoying, but Revain has adapter connectors. If you're worried about the key getting hot, lift it up to allow enough air to circulate around it. I bought 5 packs of 6" USB extenders (also from Revain) because the dongle (and other dongles I own) partially cover nearby USB ports; they are relatively cheap. With patience and care, it is easy to set up and operate. The waterfall display is really great. There are pricier SDR devices out there and I'm sure they cater to more advanced needs, but this inexpensive device is $21 for hours of enjoyment and use.
