Review on Hand-Forged Full-Tang Cleaver Knife With Middle Thickness Blade For Meat And Vegetable Cutting - Ideal For Chinese Kitchen Chef, Home Kitchen Use by Troy Caldwell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Shoddy workmanship detracts from an otherwise nice knife.

I had high hopes for this knife. I've used a few similar ones, but never one quite like this. Unfortunately, really sloppy assembly made this one disappointing.Let's start with the good. The blade is pretty good. Not sure how I feel about the "hammered" effect yet, but the cutting edge is nice and sharp and is clean and consistent. The handle is comfortable, but that's also where most of the issues are. For starters, it looks like they assembled it then did some final grinding on the rivet in the middle and around the end of the handle. The wood has been scraped in these areas almost like they did a final pass with a grinder on them. Additionally, the end cap is slightly too big for the wood, so you can feel a ridge there when you're using it.Finally, there's a big, rough ground area on one side of the blade (not the intentional one) that extends into the handle. I think someone must have sneezed when finishing it.Anyway, overall it is a weighty, nice knife, but it's been hamstrung by sloppy assembly. If the fit and finish were taking up a couple notches, I'd consider it an excellent knife. But there are other brands at this price point that are much better quality, therefore this only gets 4 stars.
