The previous poppet valve was installed 15 years ago on a copper pipe to feed the humidifier. When the water heater was changed this year it must have been clogged so I plugged the outlet with a 1/4 brass plug in case it doesn't clog in the future. I didn't want to risk replacing this valve with a new one. I installed this new valve with no problems (turn the valve knob fully counterclockwise before starting). Just try to make sure both bolts are tightened about the same amount before you start. To pierce the copper pipe, tighten the valve knob clockwise until it stops, then release to open the water supply. I already had a copper line to the humidifier so I just reused it. If you are using plastic tubing, this valve comes with fittings and parts for reuse.
