This is a CD transporter. That means it doesn't have a built-in DAC. If you try to insert and play a CD while this unit is not connected to the DAC, there will be no sound. Well, since it isn't, it's a very good block. It is very durable in its construction and very quiet. The remote takes a little getting used to (it has a firm press on the buttons), but once you get used to it, it works really well. This device doesn't have its own sound, that's the point. Its only job is to read CDs at the correct speed. And he does it very well. I wish it had a better outlet, but the one that comes with it is enough. I use mine with Parasound Zdac and it sounds amazing. Reasonable price, delivered safe and sound.
