I bought 4 of these carriers to mount on a 48" crossbar. At the third gathering, I learned how to put them together effectively. .I had concerns about how the assembly would go as many reviewers complained about the difficult assembly and poor instructions. I found it easy to assemble and looked at the picture on the box for guidance. With that I said that You can see how some people are fighting. They have extra U-bolts at the end to attach different crossbars and for some people this can be confusing. You also have to guess where the fork attaches to the tire pan. One method that helps is to loosely assemble all the components and see if you like the rear tire placement. You want the nylon strap slot to line up with the center point of the rear wheel. This isn't required, but flattening the rear tire on the wheel is a lot easier. If you are struggling to replace a bike tire, mounting this rack will be a problem for you. The stands work great. They're weak in the tray part, but that doesn't matter as all the load is on the fork mount and that part of the rack is solid. The only thing that bothers me is that the U-bolt holes in the tray need to be a bit bigger. I can slide them through, but the U-bracket has to be perfectly perpendicular to the tray or it will jam.
