Review on Dorman 625-911 Oil Cooler Hose Assembly - Compatible with Volvo Models by Mike Flyers

Do not buy this product 'used' or 'sent back to Revain'

Overall the product appeared to be of decent quality. I purchased this from Revain stock as a product returned from a previous Revain customer. The description stated that the product only had light superficial scratches but was fully functional. I thought it would be ok because that hose is hidden under the hood. Plus, it saved me $30! Degree! Well I was wrong. Minor abrasions on the surface resulted from someone taking a metal pipe in a vise and trying to bend it. I'm not sure if the previous owner bent it before returning it or if he received it, bent it and returned it, but due to the angle of the metal tube when I received it, it no longer fitted properly. This hose needs to be woven between several components near the engine and if the metal tube is not bent at the perfect angle a 2 hour fix will turn into a 12 hour fix. That happened to me. I was able to pull the old part out without too much trouble, but when I tried to put this part in, it turned out that it wouldn't work. After reseating, the angle was so great that I couldn't get the long end into the oil temp gauge. I tried many different solutions but ended up pulling the piece back out and spending the better part of 3 hours bending the metal to the right angle. Since I don't have a machine or tool that can bend metal tubing, I was left to my own ingenuity when bending the tubing. The metal tube was very difficult to bend, but I finally got close enough to insert it into the oil temp gauge. To do this, I had to remove the oil temp sensor from the engine, insert the oil cooler line into the temp sensor, and then reattach the oil temp sensor to the engine. I'm glad I had the oil pan ready because there was definitely a lot of oil. The next problem, which took another 3 hours to resolve, was that although the oil cooler line was now successfully connected to the oil temp sensor, the bracket was now in the wrong position and could not be reinstalled on the engine. I spent a lot of time using the bar under the car while lying on my back to bend it into position. I ended up just using a hacksaw to mount the motor to the old oil cooler line, which I removed and bolted on a new, longer bracket with a 10mm nut and bolt. It finally worked well enough that I felt I didn't have to worry about the lines slipping around while driving. So Lessons Learned: 1) This is an aftermarket product and may not fit 100% perfectly. You should probably allow an extra hour or so when installing it, just in case. 2) Do not buy this product "used" or "returned to Revain" as they do not verify that it still has the correct bends in the metal tubing. They just check if it works. I don't blame Revain too much for this because I'm sure they train their staff to only look for obvious rips, tears or holes. It didn't have any of that, and as soon as I installed it, it worked. But trust me, paying an extra $20-$30 to get it brand new and unused will save you a lot of time and spare you sore muscles.
