I was trying to use this to replace my Google WiFi mesh system. I'm not happy with that, it has basic parental controls so I can specify my son's devices and schedule times to lock them or lock them on demand if I need it and reasonable speed for me with my Dell XPS Wireless laptop to copy large files to a PC with a media center or Synology NAS and vice versa. But like any specialist, I wanted more. Better speed, better controls (because I hate just managing the Google app). It seemed to have what I needed so I gave it a try as the Prime Day price was excellent. Setup was easy. I restarted my cable modem to make sure it allowed traffic from the new MAC address. This was quickly found by my iPhone and allowed me to set up the basics to get it working online. I was then able to connect to it from my laptop on the web device management page. The initial setup of the phone prompted me to create two separate networks, one 2.4GHz and one 5GHz, but luckily I was able to smooth that out with the web interface. everything behind a ssid how i set up my google wireless system here. One problem a lot of people have is smart devices - they usually only run at 2.4GHz and I have over 70 of them enabled at the moment. Since I was using the same SSID and WPA key, they all showed up immediately once online. I liked that the top display showed me the number of devices. There are some nice features here. One page showed "offline" devices, so I knew my Logitech Elite hub wasn't able to connect. Otherwise I could spend time later fixing the cause of the error. There are a variety of options here, from DDNS registration (has two built-in No-IP, and I believe it was Dyndns for the other) to DHCP management. But the DHCP reservation method is terrible - you have to scroll to find the device and then try to get it to save it. And I'm out of luck. Parental control is another issue like DHCP. Pretty much EVERY page here that requires scrolling to select devices, the scrolling is awful, most things show up as UNKNOWN even if they have network names and elsewhere show up with the name, not just UNKNOWN. So I couldn't use the web interface to try to add devices to the schedule. But I've also seen that there's ONLY the ability to schedule downtime and not just turn things off on the fly like I can with Google's wireless system here. But the real nail in the coffin was the speed of wireless copying. Internet speed was fine, cable modem connection was maxed out, but file copies on my network were only half to 70% of what I get with my wireless Google system. When copying large files, I get file transfer speeds of 60-70MB/s with the help of Google. I got lucky with that when I hit 40. Usually it hung between 33 and 35, so half as fast. It was with him in the same spot in my large room with a line of sight from my laptop on my lap to him, right where Google sits. I ended up returning it and will just look for something with more speed. than what I have now but still gives me proper parental controls.
