The steel bracket does not fit close to the radio antenna.

I did not buy this item. Why should I? Foreign metal near ANY antenna will distort the effectiveness of the radio, both transmitting and receiving. This is why ALL radios are plastic unless they have an external antenna. A plastic holder (of appropriate design) is much better.
