Review on 🐦 Wagner's Wild 62050 Nyjer Seed Bird Food: Premium 10-Pound Bag for Attracting Colorful Songbirds by Colleen Bolden

Even blackbirds won't eat it

I use shelled sunflower seeds in my tubular bird feeder year round and the birds eat it - I have to refill it almost every day. Gold and house finches, sparrows, titmice, cardinals, woodpeckers, as well as pesky thrushes and blue jays (and mourning doves eat what falls). I wanted to try Nyjer seeds because I heard that thrushes don't really like them but apparently not a single bird likes them. I filled my feeder with this nayer before I went on holiday and two weeks later the feeder is still about a third full of seed and no birds to be seen. I'll throw away what's left, throw away the rest of the bag, and go back to my seeds. I would NOT recommend this seed. UPDATE: Are you trying to get rid of blackbirds? Try Nyjer seeds for a couple of weeks. When I had sunflower seeds in my feeder, I saw all sorts of native birds, including pesky blackbirds and thrushes. As mentioned before, all my visitors left after trying Nyjer seeds. Most seeds remained uneaten. After about 2 weeks I quit and went back to the seeds. All the birds are back EXCEPT the blackbirds. Apparently they have moved to other pastures, so to speak.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
