This rug mat worked great to keep my 5'3" x 7'5" rug from sliding on the hardwood floor. I made a few purchases before settling on this one and the price was $5-10 less than the rest of the competition. The width was perfect for this size rug and I only had to cut a few inches in length with scissors. If you need to trim yours, just make sure you follow a straight line and not a checkerboard pattern, as the checkerboard pattern on the pad has a slight curve. The "anti-slip" effect is a little less extreme than some other mats I've used. This may be due to the coarser checkerboard pattern. The squares will likely be somewhere between 1/4" and 3/8" wide. I didn't measure but I would say about 1/8 inch thick or less. Because the texture isn't as "grippy," the corners sometimes get crumpled under the mat when the dog decides he needs to spontaneously walk across the mat. It's not that big of a problem, but I have to clean it up at least once or twice a week.
