30A 240V AC Charger

Not many EV chargers for 30A circuits. (I googled the electrician in the chair so please consult a real electrician for information that could burn your house down.) Safety regulations state that you should only charge a 30 amp circuit at 80% continuous current, which corresponds to 24 amps. I've found that most 30 amp circuits can handle 26 amps for a few hours (that's 85% load) and interestingly more and more chargers are coming out with "26 amp" settings. I suspect some brands do this to claim they "load faster" than others. It probably is, although 2 amps might be slightly faster than 24 amps. The downside is that if you run it at 26 amps for a long time, you run the risk of overheating the wiring or the switch. That's why it's good that this charger has a manual mode to set a different amperage. If you're worried about running it at 26 amps, you can turn it down to 8 amps or 16 amps. Some cars will also be able to modulate the car's current draw (for example our Tesla can limit it to 24 amps from the car). All in all, this is an affordable charger with variable amp settings, a nice (small) LED screen showing your status, and some extra features like a charging hook and stand. Please note that you must select the 10-30 or 14-30 NEMA plug version to get the 26 amp version. 32 amp version). So far it has worked great.

Pros
  • CHARGING SCHEDULE AND REGULATED CURRENT: Set a countdown on the control box and the EV charger will start charging automatically when the countdown ends. Plan on loading times when tariffs are lower, saving you even more money. Adjustable currents from 8A to 16A give you the flexibility to plug into lower powered circuits when you don't need maximum power and increase the current when you need more power.
