Review on πŸ₯§ CanaKit Raspberry Pi Zero W 16GB Complete Starter Kit - Wireless Edition by Brandon Kraemer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice little kit. Zero is slow, so be careful what you plan to use it for.

The kit includes everything you need to get started as quickly as possible and you can set it up fully in just a few minutes. The biggest problem you might run into right away is that there's only one USB port, so you might not be able to use your keyboard and mouse at the same time unless you have a USB hub. Since this is a Pi Zero, you probably won't be using it too much in a desktop configuration other than for tweaking, but you'll need a keyboard and mouse at the same time during this process. A full desktop Pi OS image on an SD card isn't the best idea as it's surprisingly slow on the Pi Zero, but it's fairly easy to do with just a minimal install using the official Raspberry Pi firmware tools. Flash the image to the card and use raspi -config from the terminal to set everything up afterwards (and you don't need a mouse plugged into a single USB port). The machine is currently working pretty well for me as a headless system on my home network. The built-in Wi-Fi connection is relatively fast and stable, which is a lot better than using a basic non-W Pi Zero with a dongle, which I had all sorts of connection stability issues with (and it used the USB port). I can use VNC to get to the desktop to help with a few small admin tasks, but it's VERY slow. Most operations should be done over SSH, which is very convenient. All in all, this kit is perfect if you need a small car with wireless access.
