If you are hearing a continuous hum or even an intermittent "hum" from your TIVO, replacing this fan will solve your problem. Firstly, if you are hesitant to work on something like this, PLEASE just watch the seller's video, weaknees.com, which will walk you through the exchange process step by step. Great video, easy to understand and quick to show how easy an exchange can be. Next, although the video shows the hardest part - removing the cable card and cable card housing - this is TIVO "OTA" which is designed for wireless access, so does NOT have a cable card, eliminating this step entirely. which simplifies the fan replacement. The fan also comes with all the necessary tools, mainly three TORX wrenches to loosen the screws. After removing the old fan and installing the new one, you may find (at least the one I have) missing threads in the plastic case when you screw the screws into the new fan. This is not a problem. The screws have a very coarse thread and fit directly into the screw holes of the new fan. Just push a little (you can't take them off) and they screw right in. It's also a good idea, since by this point you've already taken everything apart, just wipe down the inside of the case, or maybe blow through the entire case. if you have a can of compressed air handy. Then just follow the video, put everything back together and plug it in. You should now have a nice, quiet TIVO.
