Review on Lefunpets Sponge Filter: Perfect Breeding Fry Betta Shrimp Nano Fish Tank for 5 Gal-80 Gal Aquarium Fish Tank by Rachel Smith

Revainrating 4 out of 5

One of the best filters. After 50 cents and a bit of work

Update 07/25/2020 So on a whim I decided to give this filter a different look by modifying it with a bubble stone. Not only are the results incredible, but when combined with the 1" Airstone from the Imagitarium Bubbling Column Airstone 4-Pack: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074W91QSW/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_t1_panhFbKDYGZKE this is an incredible little sponge filter. The best part is that it's one of the easiest mods you'll ever make as the small air stone fits snugly onto the sponge filter All you have to do is: 1) Remove the base from the sponge 2) The Lift jaw from bottom to top and remove bottom section 3) Remove sponge 4) Take scissors or sturdy hobby scissors and cut off the crosses holding middle shaft 5) Remove middle section 6) Place the Imagitarium air stone in the middle of the center piece 7) Use scissors/scissors to cut the molding at the bottom of the base piece 8) Reinstall the sponge and connect the base to the bottom side of the filter. 9) Connect the air pump. You now have a completely silent sponge filter that you can toss in the corner of a tank and never see. Plus, it's removable and small enough to fit in almost any size suitcase. I was even able to use it in a small pet carrier! The only thing keeping this from a full 5 star rating is that it needs modification or is unusable due to noise. An air stone for 45 cents and no more than 5 minutes of work and you have one of the most incredible filters! Original Rating (1 Star): Every aquarium I own has a sponge filter combined with a hang-on back filter. . All are not heard. Imagine my surprise when I connected this filter to an air pump and was literally attacked by a loud gurgle. It drowned out everything else in the room. I lasted about 10 minutes before turning off the air pump. Being absolutely tiny I have a practical use for it in an upcoming move to use in a roadside barrier instead of airstone, but I doubt I'll be saving it for later.
