There's a reason so many people use Copic

. To be honest I was very close to choosing Copic SP multi-line pens mainly because of the price. I've used MANY fancy drawing pens in my time - Staedtler, Micron, even non-SP Copics - and they've served my needs well enough. And then I decided to take a decisive step. Wow. These are by far the best drawing pens I've ever used, but for all the positives, there are a few caveats. First and foremost is of course the price. These are not cheap pens and if finances are tight you can (like me) get by with cheaper brands. This is partially offset by the fact that ink refills and even replacement nibs can be purchased for each pen, extending the life of the pen. And they have a nice metal body (aluminum?), making them more durable and surprisingly comfortable to hold. Those are good pens too. I don't think they're doing as well as one would expect from cheaper stocks. They work best on very smooth paper, and anything smaller looks bad as the ink doesn't flow well either. Imagine driving an expensive sports car on a bumpy road with potholes. You will feel and notice every sharp punch. So watch out: better paper = better results. A minor complaint is that the ink tube, which forms the back cover of the pen and can be removed and replaced, is not tight. When I put the pen cap on and take it off again when I'm done, the tube tends to run with it. Not a big problem, but a bit annoying. Finally, and this sort falls under paper observation, the pens often lost their flow for a while when I put in fresh ink. The pen literally stopped for a moment or two. I'm not sure why that is, and it doesn't seem to happen on nicer, smoother paper. Buying these pens is a step forward, but keep in mind that the cost will increase on its own as you realize you have to buy higher quality paper at a higher price. Bonus. However, with that in mind, I'm definitely glad I made the upgrade to them and feel like I should have done it a long time ago.
