I baked something that started smoking and smoking heavily as the water hit the bottom of the oven. I opened a few windows, but then I thought what an extremely quiet chirp that was—it was that smoke detector, chirping so quietly like it was two houses away, hidden under several mattresses. Technically he recognized smoke. In a real smoke/fire incident where I was unaware of the smoke and right here it would have been useless as it was so quiet it took some research to find the source of the noise.
