I had two uses for this product in mind – the first is an off-grid cabin and the second is my residence during power outages. While this product isn’t very well suited to the first, it will absolutely crush the second. I live near a densely populated urban area, but am just far enough outside that I have experienced a power outage lasting several days at least once a year over the last 3 years. I’ve got a pretty good system down with a transfer switch, generator, kerosene heater, wood stove, and propane grills but after three days without showering or hot water my family gets cranky. This unit solves that problem.The product itself is well built; I could find no faults with the craftsmanship. The assembly and use instructions were mostly clear, and I had it out of the box and put together in about 20 minutes. Though it says not to use tape when making connections, I’ve always liked the added security of PTFE propane/natural gas thread sealant tape. I used it and then tested it with soapy water and did not have any leaks.This unit is fairly straightforward to use and it worked surprisingly well when hooked to a garden hose and portable propane tank. I was amazed at how quickly my well water was heated and it was very easy to control both the flow of water and the temperature. I can absolutely see it working with an RV or as an emergency shower during power outages, but beyond that I think it’s impractical for remote camping. The weight, awkwardness of configuring all the hose connections, the requirement for a steady source of propane, and the need for a way to generate water pressure. Unfortunately, because I don’t have a water pump at my cabin, it really won’t work there. I also couldn’t ever see bringing this with me camping unless I had an RV. That said, I’m glad I have the product because it’ll be a game changer for comfort during a power outage. Rather than traveling to a hotel, this will complete my preparedness kit and allow showering at home, which make the cost of this unit compared to the longevity I’ll get out of it and the convenience of having hot water well worth it. In fact, I am actually hoping for an extended outage so I can gloat.
