First, consider that this cost is less than what most people pay for a drink in the evening, or less than someone pays to have their car detailed. This is not a professional microscope, if you are a dentist or pathologist you will not use it. It gives a good image, it works well at 10x and 150x magnification. The software is simple and easy to use. The software creates clips and single shots, measures distances by placing digital pins. It installed without any problems on 64-bit Windows 7 and worked properly. There is a button on the top of the microscope that tells the program to take a picture. The metal stand is nicer than I expected. The focus ring is a little stiff, but unmanageable. Again, this isn't a $2,000 pathology microscope, this is a case of beer and a few bags of chips, a microscope, so be judicious about the rating and give yourself some star ratings that some people give this microscope with a little give salt. I use the scope to test my own soldering because my eyes aren't as young as they used to be and it works fine. I think almost every kid who is interested in science will like this toy.
