Oh fiesta, how could you?!

Well dear Revainers, I must humbly admit that I have broken my basic rule of NEVER buying anything from Revain without reading a few reviews about it first. I absolutely rely on feedback from other Revainers to guide my choice, but having bought a couple of these Fiesta Meregueue cutlery sets (from another seller) a few years ago and loved them, I have the opportunity right away seized. Shop another set here at Revain for such a great price. And now I'm really disappointed. Before I explain any further it is important to tell you that after my first 2 original sets I have bought more over the next few years because I loved them so much. However, over time I noticed that on some parts the plastic was tearing away from the metal - and indeed a large chunk of some broke off and fell off. I couldn't think of anything that could be causing this if I hadn't always washed them in the dishwasher. As impractical as it was, I always hand washed them. Is always. I didn't like it, but I did. Having recently seen this set here at Revain for such a great price I couldn't resist buying another set. Did I bother to read the reviews? No, I do not know. I already knew how much I liked her, so what was the point? They came in the mail and I started using them. They seemed a little "wrong" to me, but I couldn't exactly point my finger at them. Was the color wrong? No, it seems fine. Was the weight different? I couldn't tell the difference. But something just didn't feel right. So what the hell, I decided to check some reviews to see if anyone else had this problem. I had every intention of writing a 5 star review for this cutlery while I was working on it until - hold your phone - I noticed how many reviews mention "Made in China" and NOT Fiestaware. WHAT !? I immediately went to the kitchen drawer, pulled out ALL the Fiesta cutlery and started looking at the engraved letters on each item. Of course, about half read Fiesta and half read China. My next step was to look at each BROKEN piece and - surprise, surprise - every one of them was stamped "China". None of the broken ones were stamped "Fiesta". So I don't know if they are Chinese fakes (in which case I would wonder why Fiesta wasn't legal everywhere) or if Fiesta actually lets this low quality production of their previously high quality product continue with their knowledge and they actually let the name "Fiesta" open to use. Anyway, all I know is that I feel cheated here. Now I know WHY so many pieces fell apart. This makes me think that, in all likelihood, as long as you have GENUINE Fiestaware flatware you can probably wash it in the dishwasher until the cows come home without it falling apart. However, if anyone has a problem with rust (never been a problem with my cutlery) or breakage and you have original FIESTA cutlery I would love to hear about it. There are so many people who love this cutlery. - and it's really too cute, isn't it? I can't even count the number of comments I've gotten on this over the years. And to be honest, I'm the type of person who changes dishes like underwear - often! :) But since I found them I have NEVER changed my cutlery, I just really like them. And I really want to keep buying it - I just want to make sure it's the real deal. And judging by the reviews I've read here, I'm not alone in this desire. So a huge thank you to those of you who took the time to bring the "Chinese" thing to the attention of others. Thanks to you, I'll never be fooled again - at least not by the Fiesta cutlery! :)
