Review on D-PLANET [2-Pack] LM2596s Buck Converter Step-Down Voltage Regulator Power Module 36V 24V 12V to 5V 2A Voltage Stabilizer with LED Display by Mike Martz

No/failed soldering on one

In the first module I checked the soldering points before trying. Immediately I noticed that the voltage input on one pin (the IN+ pin, top left pin in the picture) was completely missing solder and the other pin had a *very weak solder connection (IN-). I didn't need to explain why that's not good. Of the two packs I purchased, the second module appears to be physically fine. Luckily I only needed one and I can fix the solder joints but I don't have to. those connections that weren't soldered properly? Absolute bullshit. The design is entirely designed around having a thick cable and pushing the cable to the "ground" when unplugging. Well, when working with small fans (in this case reducing 24V from 3D printer to 12V for fans), the wires are not thick enough to even make a connection. The bad soldering of the connection was actually to my advantage since I had to desolder it anyway and solder the wires directly to the board. As for the actual voltage drop, it actually does the job and is pretty easy to install. I specifically chose the onboard LCD for these modules so I don't have to tune with a multimeter. The LCD is *a little* slow to update, but as long as you don't turn the potentiometer screw as fast as you physically can, you're fine. If the LCD is the selling point and you're willing to solder it a little. let them work, that's ok. I would look elsewhere if you need a hassle free solution.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
