Review on πŸ”— Enhance Your Business Network with the Linksys LRT224 Dual WAN Gigabit VPN Router by Julius Hunter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent router for home/small business

This Linksys router is packed with features. IPv4, IPv6, Firewall, Routing Protocols, VPN and more. This is a pretty impressive little box. In my case I used it to split a network in two and the LRT214 did the job with no problems. The web interface seems a little sluggish, but in terms of performance, the LRT214 gets the job done. It's missing some high-level features like support for external authentication (things like OpenLDAP, TACACS+, etc.) and it only supports RIPv1, v2, and RIPng, but given the price of this router, that's probably to be expected. However, this router supports sending logs to a remote server. A separate DMZ port is convenient and allows you to have fun online. Overall, given the cost of the LRT214 and its target market, this is a winner in my opinion. Even with a slow web interface, this is a good budget router for home and even small business use. Trace the problem to the firewall registry. This router doesn't seem to have log rotation, so when the router's log fills up, bad things happen. Keep this in mind when creating firewall rules. You may need to disable logging of certain firewall events. After I disabled logging of rejected packets, the router stayed online and worked as expected.
