Review on Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED: Superior Wide-Angle Prime Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras by Todd Nordine

The photo is expensive =P

First, I'm not a professional, just an extreme amateur. I just received this today and the autofocus on my D3200 was way off at 1.4. Unfortunately the D3200 doesn't have an AF fine tune option so I had to set 24mm manually with a screw under the mirror in the lightbox. 6 hours of fun considering how sensitive this screw is at f1.4. Literally 1 inch depth of field. ATTENTION! ADJUST THE SCREW AT YOUR OWN RISK! IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO OPEN THE LIGHT AND MIRROR FOR MANUAL ADJUSTMENT! THE SENSOR IS APPROX. 5MM AWAY FROM SCREW! I got as close as possible with the least amount of back focus. I cannot stress enough how delicate this screw is. Although my other lenses are even sharper now, you'll probably never notice AF defocusing when shooting at f/2.8 or lower. First photo, f1.4, ISO 100, 1/400, a meter away from you. like a shot The second photo is the same as taken, 100% crop. No news except clipping. I am very happy with my purchase and can't wait to get my D850. As for the cost, it is very expensive. Is it worth? Not really for me, I'm an amateur. I want the best, so I have the best. You can always get a used one, but then you don't really know if someone dropped it. Or take a risk with "obsolete". From what I've read people send them back thinking the lens is out of focus when the camera needs calibration. So Nikon sends it back, tests it, finds nothing wrong and lowers the price just because it was opened.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Slightly crumpled
