Good option for compost bag

We regularly compost with our trash and were looking for ways to create a system that would allow for easy compost storage and removal. We tried different brands of compost bags but ultimately settled on the BioBag which has a bin with three compartments (one for rubbish, one for compost and one for recycling). The bags fit very well in a small jar and it's nice to know that they are compostable so we can use them for other waste related uses in addition to our compost. The downside is the durability of the bags. Luckily, our compost bin is removable so we don't have to remove the sack from the bin until we're standing next to a large bin, but many sacks have been ripped with minimal wear and tear. This created a big mess (scattering coffee grounds around the world is never fun). Now I make sure nothing gets stuffed in the bags and that they don't weigh too much, which seems to alleviate some of the problems. Another problem is that bags sometimes have a weak point where even light pressure (e.g. shaking a new bag before throwing it in the bin) can tear the side of the bag. In general, despite the problems, I like the bags; and, in the absence of a more durable product, would recommend but have a caveat about durability.

Pros
  • home compost and compatible with backyard compost system
Cons
  • high price
