Review on πŸ”’ Honeywell 5800PIR-RES Wireless Residential PIR Motion Sensor by Vedprakash Trilltight

Great product but beware of large pets

Works very well and I'm glad these motion detectors are doing their intended job in my home. Setup/Installation was easy and straightforward. The myriad additions to the Honeywell system made me choose self-control and peace of mind. I have two 70 pound dogs that always follow each other around my house. I was concerned that if they both entered a room with a motion sensor, their combined height and weight would trigger the sensor and set off a false alarm. Of course they did, but to my surprise, they also included the motion sensor separately. So if you have a large dog (large in size or weight), please know that they will not ignore your pet 100%, even if it is less than the 80 lb limit described for this product. These sensors pick up infrared heat and a large enough presence will be triggered whether he's walking on two legs or four. I have to be careful when setting my alarm system to different modes. I have a certain mode when we leave the dogs in the house and another when we take the dogs out because then we keep the motion sensors active. I don't want local authorities charging false alarms just because my dogs are playing. This is unfortunate as some alarm systems have a default security where if the internal motion sensor is triggered without triggering a second perimeter sensor (window, door, garage, etc.) the alarm will not go off. However, this leaves someone vulnerable to an intruder coming in through a roof, chimney, or uncontrolled entry point. But I only wish my Lynx 5200 system could work with large dog motion sensors. I understand the limitations and wouldn't want a small intruder to overwhelm me because I didn't want my large dogs to be alarming.
