Simplified home theater streaming with wired connection

A simple but effective device for multiple Ethernet connection ports. I connected this switch to my TP-Link AC750 Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender with Gigabit Ethernet (RE210) port, which is plugged into an outlet near my home theater. I need wired connections for the following: HDTV, Blu-ray player, Roku 3, Apple TV, Android Box Media Player, TiVo Roamio OTA and gaming system. With this switch, I was able to give all those devices a wired internet connection and add a faster and more stable internet connection to my streaming media devices. Setup was easy. I plugged the 8-port D-Link into a surge protector outlet and then connected the ethernet cable from the TP-Link range extender to the D-Link switch. This used one of the 8 ports, leaving me with 7 free ports to provide wired internet connection for all my devices. Connecting the range extender to a wired connection was important as it provides a wired connection for everyone else. It goes through the outlets of my house. This setup is a great solution for cord cutters who want to connect smart TVs and streaming devices via a wired connection. I have both WiFi and a wired connection at home, and I generally get about 20% faster speeds with a wired connection β€” even when using the excellent Linksys AC3200 Tri-Band Smart Wi-Fi Router with gigabit and USB support that households have a large number of devices, a Smart Wi-Fi app to manage your network from anywhere (EA9200) and Internet access at 60 Mbit/s. I highly recommend this switch if you're looking to add more wired internet connections to your home or office, and it works with range extenders that use your home's electrical system.

Pros
  • Secure and store-and-forward switching
Cons
  • Cables shorter than other options
