Open contacts make it easier to short-circuit when connected

I used it to charge 12V batteries and would like to use batteries from another manufacturer. They have exposed metal on the front ends of the connectors, making it easy to accidentally short the center and outer conductors when mating a plug to a socket, causing sparks and potentially damaging the battery.
