Since most vehicles no longer have a spare tire, the Beate Portable Air Compressor Digital Tire Inflator is a great device for the spare wheel well. If you were only given a spray can of repair fluid, wouldn't you have to darn your tie enough to get to your house/tire shop/anywhere? a gift, while the main selection criterion is the size of the device. I used to have another similar inflator but that was no longer available. However, it helps to be able to compare them. Since the cold weather lowered my tire pressure a bit, I had the opportunity to try out the Beate. Not surprisingly, the device is quite small. It comes with an extra 12V cable long enough for you to reach each wheel from the center console if you have a mid-size sedan or crossover. Please note that the cable is not long enough to go through a door and then around the whole car. You have to go through the left door to get to one side and then through the right door to get to the other side. It's not that big of a deal, but it's different from standalone devices (or, for that matter, a pancake tank). on the stick itself. The reason for this is that this type of compressor has a VERY short run time and it is good not to waste time pumping it up due to a leaky connection. This somewhat compensates for this by allowing the inflation pressure to be set digitally (since you don't take it off and put it on to check it with a gauge). I've found the unit's pressure reading to be within a pound or so of the separate pressure gauge I use. The way this device is set up, set your desired inflation pressure (e.g. 38psi) and it will work until it reaches that pressure. Light. Taking 4 tires from 32-35psi to 42psi took about 6 minutes (with 245/45-19s). The device is not only small. it also holds all your accessories. This allows you to pack it in your car without a bag and it will easily fit in a sunroof or wheel well (where you used to get a spare). Fiction! Having one of these and a small battery pack that can jump out of your car is a must (IMO) in an emergency. Highly recommended
