Good for post-workout recovery, but not good for sleep.

NOW Foods ZMA is a good quality recovery supplement effective depending on what you are looking for . Personally, I've had good results with magnesium, zinc, and vitamin B6 alone, but somehow the combination just didn't work for me. However, this is a supplement worth trying, and I'm generally happy with NOW Food's regular diet and sports supplements. For me, ZMA only works as a supplement to athletic recovery after a hard workout. I usually see a slight improvement in sleep management with magnesium. but ZMA was just terrible for my sleep. I started taking ZMA before bed (as directed) and had the worst sleep for two weeks. I am a petite woman and taking 2 pills before bed caused a lot of vivid dreams and restlessness in my sleep; Taking 1 pill was better, but I felt overwhelmed in the morning and had a harder time waking up, even after a long sleep. After that I take 1 pill post workout and only then did I really start to see the benefits. I've tried taking 2 pills when I'm sweating profusely and it's a longer workout than usual but I'm too nervous. While ZMA isn't a miracle worker, it did slightly improve my muscle recovery after a hard workout. I have less muscle pain and stiffness and my endurance recovers faster (my mind and body are usually a bit restless after taking ZMA). I think this is mostly due to B6 which has always worked for me in terms of post workout recovery and energy. I can't say I felt a significant improvement in endurance and strength. Otherwise, ZMA helped a bit with immunity, but individual zinc supplements worked better for me. I usually have seasonal allergies, I rarely get colds, so supporting immunity for me means I've had fewer (or milder) symptoms with my allergies. Personally, I haven't felt any difference between taking it on an empty stomach or with food. , but since I took them post-workout, my stomach was pretty empty most of the time (I usually eat 30-60 minutes post-workout though). The capsules are easy to take (I have no problem taking large pills) and I have not experienced any reflux or stomach problems while taking the pills.
