Ordered this helmet along with several other brands to compare. One of the others was certified and the other was not (note that this particular helmet is not certified and therefore does not have a foam liner). However, it has an excellent foam insert. Because it is not certified, it is designed for impact/low impact disasters. I knew that when I bought it, so I knew what I was buying. I use it for standard skateboard longboarding so I don't need anything else. Whether or not you choose a certified helmet really depends on what you are using the helmet for and personal preference. As soon as I tried this helmet on I knew that out of the three helmets I ordered this would be the keeper. . It literally sits on my head like a perfect glove. So comfortable and sits nice and low unlike many helmets that sit high on the head. It makes it look great and you don't look like a mushroom head. This means you are more likely to wear this helmet. Who wants to look like a Space Balls extra? This is a really great helmet with enough protection for what I will be using it for. If you plan to e-board or bike, this helmet probably isn't for you, and you should probably consider a Pro-Tec certified helmet, which typically costs about $20 more.
