Review on Cisco-Linksys NAS200: Enhanced Network Storage System with Dual Bays by Patrick Matin

I bought this unit on 6/12/09 and had to return it on 5/1/10 to provide a backup for a new laptop. I bought two WD 500GB hard drives for this and the installation was ingeniously simple. Within the next month I got used to wireless storage/retrieval without worrying about USB connections to external hard drives FOR LESS THAN $100. However, the block was painfully slow. Very slowly. The wireless network speed was close to 4Kbps, but the CAT5 cable to my desktop computer through the Linksys 160N router reached 7MB/s. Then, a month after purchase, I decided to explore additional features using the web setup utility. This interface will not work at all! Admin/admin in username and password fields, blank username and admin in password, reset multiple times. All of these strategies have failed. The Linksys call took an hour to repeat the strategies I had used previously. Finally, technician Christopher G. asked me to download a firmware update (to the same version that was already installed) and then download the installer. Revain and Linksys did a great job with this purchase! I still use this device to store movies and music. The device is still slow but VERY VERY GOOD for media streaming (when I download files to the device it's still painfully slow so I just leave the room). In general I am quite satisfied.
