NAS200 transfer rate is SLOW!

I am very disappointed with the product! I wish I had done some research before buying, but with a trusted name like Linksys I figured I wouldn't have either. First, the transfer rate is very LOW! It takes days or weeks to download movies and music because you have to do it over the network. The network adapter is only 10/100, but even with that you still get a maximum of about 3 MB/s! It has 2 slots for internal hard drives, but you can't copy directly from one to the other! You can't copy…

simple but slow data warehouse best

For what it is, this thing works well. I've had it for over a year now and it's still working. If I remember correctly, it won't write to NTFS filesystems (it will read them with no problem). In order to be able to put files larger than 2GB on it, I installed an ext2 filesystem on the hard drives before putting them on the NAS (I don't think it would create that kind of filesystem by itself). The whole thing starts very slowly and the transfer speed isn't that good once it's started. The web…

Quirks make it less useful than expected

I bought this to provide RAID 1 backup storage for our entire home, to have a centralized location to access email and other user files, and a network server for mine external USB drives to be . While I was able to get the device working, there were a few issues that I wish I'd known about before purchasing: 1) Device access is slow. A lot of people have mentioned this before, but I figured it was only for large file transfers that I could live with. However, just accessing the hard drive is…

  • Some flaws

I bought this unit on 6/12/09 and had to return it on 5/1/10 to provide a backup for a new laptop. I bought two WD 500GB hard drives for this and the installation was ingeniously simple. Within the next month I got used to wireless storage/retrieval without worrying about USB connections to external hard drives FOR LESS THAN $100. However, the block was painfully slow. Very slowly. The wireless network speed was close to 4Kbps, but the CAT5 cable to my desktop computer through the Linksys 160N…
