Unbelievable! Best in Aquarium Test Kits

Unbelievable! I literally didn't think it would work. I have a 90 gallon aquarium with Oscar and (surprisingly) a few thorns and angels that he leaves alone. It has a homemade filtration system with two biological sponge filters and a mechanical filter that circulates the water about 7 times per hour. My ammonia and nitrite levels are literally unreadable, but my nitrates build up quickly. My aquarium turns slightly yellowish after a day or two and significantly yellower at the end of the week, the water is changed weekly. Sigh. I pocketed this stuff and thought, hey, it's worth seeing if it helps. Within an hour my yellow tank was crystal clear. A week later, the levels are still at an unreadable level. I literally can't believe how much of a change this was from carbon not working that well. So replace your charcoal with these. A few notes: Yes, you need their bags. Unlike carbon, they are not as big as pebbles, but like sand. So you really need a very thin filter bag. Second, you can charge this thing with bleach, but to be honest if it really lasts 4-6 months between charges I'll probably just use a new one. 4 months still means my aquarium is using a bottle a year which at this price point probably isn't worth the hassle of upgrading old stuff. Just my two cents!

Pros

Cons
  • No Instructions
